Welcome to Calera, Alabama.
Calera is a city located in Shelby County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 3,158. Calera, known as the "Heart of the Heart of Dixie" because of its central location in the great state of Alabama, offers its residents many of the conveniences of city living - including fine schools, recreational facilities, and shopping - but at a small town pace. Several fine antique shops, which invite browsers, are located in downtown Calera.
With all the major railroads connecting in Calera, access to major interstates and the close proximity to the two largest cities in Alabama (Birmingham to the north and Montgomery to the south), Calera is an ideal location for an industrial corporation. Calera recently added SYSCO to its roster of industrial corporations.

The Spires of many churches, representing every denomination, reach to the heavens above. Calera's faith community and citizens enjoy a relaxed, "Mayberryesque" atmosphere focused around togetherness, faith and progress. The citizens of Calera are proud of the many other facilities that they are able to offer to new residents. These include a new health care center with physicians, dentists, a full up-to-date library with attached meeting rooms, modern full time fire and rescue department, and numerous churches of different faiths.
The city of Calera is growing rapidly. Those who make Calera home find it is great place to live and work; and, appreciate the quality of life that Calera offers. The City of Calera maintains a large city park with illuminated facilities for football, baseball, softball, tennis and basketball. The park also features playground equipment, picnic pavilions, and hiking paths.
Calera is home to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum; a three-block area which features antique locomotives and railcars, a railroad museum and excursion train rides. "Thomas the Tank Engine" is an annual attraction, expected to draw crowds in excess of 20,000 this year! Come see the "world renowned" Heart of Dixie" Railroad museum.
